Dr. Richmond Tiemoko

After over 9 years of dedicated service at the UNFPA regional offices providing technical and strategic leadership to UNFPA’s work on Population and Development, evidence and knowledge and innovation, Richmond Tiemoko is moving to join UNFPA Office in Burundi.

With a solid academic background and over 20 years of field experience, Dr Richmond Tiemoko is a seasoned international expert in population and rights-based development issues. He played a critical role in UNFPA’s engagement in intergovernmental processes in Africa and globally.   He successfully led the regional review of the ICPD at 15 and ICPD beyond 2014, Demographic Dividend, Population and climate and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.  He is a strong advocate of and expert in demographic dividend. He provided substantive contribution to the development and implementation continental programme such as African Programme on Accelerated improvement of civil registration and Vital Statistics (APAI-CRVS); African Migration dialogue and Africa Data revolution.  

Prior to joining UNFPA, Dr Tiemoko was for 5 years Director of Africa Regional Sexuality Resource Centre – A Ford Foundation’s funded regional initiative- where in developed and implemented leadership capacity building  for young professional, sexuality research programme and public dialogue to promote SRHR.   Prior to this managerial function, Dr Tiemoko had a fruitful teaching and research/academic career at the University Of Sussex (UK), the International Institute of Social Studies of Erasmus University of Rotterdam (The Netherlands) and the Regional Institute of Demographic Training and Research (IFORD) of University of Yaoundé 2 (Cameroon). He has researched and published on population policy, migration, fertility and human sexuality. 

Richmond Tiemoko, is a statistician-demographer with a PhD in Development studies specialized in Population and Development from the International Institute of Social Studies of Erasmus University of Rotterdam in The Hague (The Netherlands). He holds a Diplôme d’ Etude Démographique from the Regional Institute of Demographic Training and Research (IFORD)  University of Yaoundé 2 (Cameroon). He is an engineer in statistical applications and applied economics from Ecole Nationale Superieure de Statistiques et d’ Economie Appliquée (ENSEA), Abidjan  (Cote d’Ivoire) -a regional Center of Excellence in Statistics and Applied economics.  He also obtained a certificate in Gender Studies from the Council for the Development of Social Science  Research in Africa (CODESRIA).
